Small changes, big impact.

It's been a busy year at Moxie HQ. We turned 17 (hip hip, hooray!), developed some new products, launched our Organics range and Period Cups in Greece, made some serious period progress and ate lots of b'day cake whilst doing it. Here’s what’s new...

PACKAGING (C)UPDATE!

We've said "bye" to the plastic window on the front of our period cup packaging - forever! That means that our menstrual cup inner and outer packaging is now fully curb-side recyclable (so you can put it out with your weekly/fortnightly home or office collection).

Plus, we use a zero-waste production process to produce the cups themselves, so we only use the exact amount of silicone required for each cup. Our cups are probably the planet friendliest period product in our range as they're reusable for anywhere between 5 - 10 years if properly cared for. Cute for us, for you, and the planet, too.

UPCYCLING AT MOXIEHQ

We recently invested in a fancy new shredding machine so that we can up-cycle and repurpose our outer Moxie cartons to help give them a longer life. Since our retail packs are quite small, they can easily get damaged in transit, and so for shipping and delivery purposes (both to you and to our retail partners), they are packed and shipped in what are called 'shippers', or more simply, outer cartons. Whilst these cartons are recyclable, we prefer to extend their use as much as possible. Shredding them and re-using them for packing purposes allows us to do just that. It's not perfect, but it's progress!

INTRODUCING BIO-BUBBLE FOR E-STORE ORDERS 

Some people are so smart! We don't know who invented this exactly, but it's genius: meet bubble wrap that protects precious cargo - like the glass bottles of bath salts and personal lubricant we send out in our e-store orders - but one that's actually environmentally responsible.

How, you ask?

Special additives are used in the manufacturing process that allows the wrap to break-down easily with the naturally occuring micro-organisms found in soil, landfill, and home compost bins. In turn, it produces natural fertiliser without leaving a trace, protecting our wildlife and keeping plastics out of waterways. Talk about progress.

Added bonus? It's made locally in Australia.

A LITTLE TLC: FOR YOUR TEA, YOUR PERIOD AND THE PLANET

After months and months and many blends trialled (11, to be exact!), we launched our latest memeber of the Moxie fam: our Australian Certified Organic (ACO) Moxie FLO TEA. It brews red, tastes delicious and has been specifically blended in collaboration by a Naturopath, Nutritionist and Herbalist to help sooth the symptoms of PMS. Here's what else makes her so special:

• Every ingredient in this caffeine-free, herbal blend, is organic
• She's made and packed in Australia
• The outer packaging is curb-side recyclable
• The tea bags are home compostable (be sure to remove the paper tag, first. You can recycle that. Cute!)

Our next step in the progress process will be the inclusion of a compostable inner protective bag instead of a plastic one. We were unable to achieve this for launch as we only made a very small batch of product and couldn't meet the supplier's minimum order requirements, but we'll be ready for batch #2!

A SAFE SPACE FOR ALL PEOPLE WHO PERIOD 

Something beautiful happened a few weeks ago. We were tagged in a story on Instagram; a photo of the side of one of our Moxie period care packs with our 'Progressive Period Care' messaging and gender-neutral language, with the accompanying message: "As the parent of a non-binary teen, the language on the @moxiehq period care products are a breath of fresh air. And they're certified vegan, too!" 

Language matters, words are powerful, and our use of more inclusive language in our messaging isn't about taking anything away from anyone. We champion women and will continue to amplify women's voices (like many in our This is Moxie interview series) and fight for equality for women; but equally, we champion inclusivity and menstrual equity for all people who period, irrespective of gender or how they identify. Moxie is a safe and welcoming space for all. Come flow with us, friends! 

We're nowhere near done yet, Moxettes - there's lots more in the works, including bringing more of our processes back into Australia wherever we can.
