A NEW WAY TO FLOW HAS ARRIVED

You’ve seen a lot of organic period-care around the block, so what makes us different? So glad you didn’t ask. 

Over 2+ years in the making, we developed Moxie Organics because we felt the current organic ranges on the market were missing a few things, like:

• Organic cotton covers
• Efficient absorption
• No conventional plastics or synthetic fibres
• Accessible prices (if you're paying $7 for your tampons, it's time to start asking questions)

So we put our tampons in, and got to bleeding, then thinking - and Moxie Organics was born! Here's everything you need to know about your new eco period pals.

THEY'RE SOFT ON THE PLANET

Moxie Organics liners, pads and tampons have been designed and made so that the parts that touch your body are nothing but biodegradable organic cotton - a material that’s soft on the planet but still strong on your period (what a flex!).

Where conventional cotton is often grown using pesticides, chemical fertilisers and requires extensive irrigation, organic cotton is grown more naturally and sustainably; using methods like crop rotation, organic fertilisers, beneficial insects and human labor for weed control. That's good news for growers, farmers and your body.

Our tamps are made with nothing but 100% organic cotton from cover to core, which means they're also fully biodegradable. Our pads, whilst made predominantly with organic cotton, do contain some non-organic components (like their backing sheet - more on that below) but they still remain mostly biodegradable or compostable.

All outer packaging is fully recyclable.

THEY'RE STRONG ON YOUR PERIOD

We've met many period products that claim to be planet friendly, but they simply just don't work as well as they could/should. They fluff, they're rough, or they simply don't absorb enough! 

We were pretty firm on delivering uncompromised period peace-of-mind when it came to developing our new range. Here's why you can count on Moxie Organics:

• Our tampons have an organic cotton core AND cover - they absorb efficiently, are soft to insert and there's less chance of fluffing and fibre shed.
• Our pads are super thin but super absorbent and are made using quick-wicking layers of fibre (rather than wads of fluff pulp that often tend to clump together when wet).
• Our pads also contain non-toxic SAP (super absorbent polymer) which is what helps keep you dry and leak-free (more on that later). Their cover, or 'topsheet', is also made with super soft organic cotton.

Bonus benefit: our entire Organics range is hypoallergenic, which means that it  is suitable for sensitive skin and less likely to cause irritation.

WE CHOSE PAPER OVER PLASTIC

Some serious period progress has gone on over here: we've wrapped our Organics tampons in recyclable paper instead of plastic. Huzzah!

Our pads and liners are wrapped in a compostable film that's made from non-genetically modified corn starch that doesn't leave any harmful residues behind after it biodegrades.

All our outer boxes are recyclable.

LET'S TALK INGREDIENTS

There's a lot of talk around town about period product companies not having to disclose the ingredients they contain - this is and isn't true.

Tampons are heavily regulated in most countries and these regulations stipulate that all ingredients must be listed clearly on pack. Pads and liners are not regulated in the same way and so it's a bit of a grey area.

We're more fans of green over grey, so in organic cotton style, we're gonna break it all down for you, Moxette. You can find a full list of ingredients on each product's respective page and on-pack, but here's a quick run-down of what everything's made from:

• Absorbent paper layer (for quick flow-wicking)

• Vegan adhesive

Let's talk SAP for a sec

SAP sometimes gets a bad wrap - unfairly so, we think. SAP, a.k.a. Super Absorbent Polymer, is a water-absorbing polymer that can absorb and retain extremely large amounts of a fluid relative to its own weight (up to 300 times!). Hence why it is very commonly used in products like period care and nappies.

REAL TALK: SAP has been extensively tested, is safe to use for absorbent hygiene products, is non-irritating to the skin and is non-toxic. You might find that period products without it are more leaky and less absorbent.

Whilst it's not (yet!) biodegradable, it only forms a teensy part of our pad products and so we've opted to include it because there's no denying the benefits:

• SAP is really absorbent - so a very thin pad, like Moxie Organics, can hold a significant amount of flow.
• SAP helps keep you and your skin dry by quickly wicking away any flow and trapping it in the core of the pad (no-one wants to sit in a soggy pad all day. Or a leaky one!).
• Because of the above, the use of SAP in a product can also help prevent topical skin and vaginal infections. 

Now imagine a pad product without it (no thanks!). 

That all said, we're working on a biodegradable alternative (keep an eye on our  period progress report for updates!).

TL;DR - SAP, used in our Organics pads, is a safe to use, non-toxic fluid-absorbing polymer that helps keeps you extra dry and leak-free.

We've made sure that the materials we use and suppliers we choose stack up, so that you can bleed with peace-of-mind when it comes to your period, our planet and its people.

 The organic cotton we use in our products is GOTS Certified (Global Organic Textile Standard).

 Our entire Moxie Organics range (and also our period cups!) are proudly Vegan Australia Certified.

 Our Moxie Organics tampons are Australian Certified Organic (ACO).

PROGRESS OVER PERFECTION

Your period is personal, Moxette, and the products you choose are yours to make. So we make options! All of which aren’t perfect, but all which represent a step towards accessible, smart and environmentally friendly(er) period care solutions.
