What better way to spend a rainy, wintery Melbourne Thursday night than fawning over the threaded delights at Willow? Last night, I was treated to “An evening with Kit Willow” at the Sydney-based designer’s Hawksburn (Melbourne) store. And what a treat it was! Nibbles, endless bottles of Moet & Chandon, good girly chatter and a peak at Willow’s incredible AW ’12 collection*swoon*.
I bought my first Willow piece when I was about 20, a beautifully tailored jacket, fitted at the waist with fish-tail like detail at the back… I still have that jacket and I still absolutely love it. Willow is one of few local designers who are clever enough with their designs in that the pieces are not only wearable and unique, but the cuts are so classically feminine that they never become disposable fashion. Willow’s jackets and coats especially will still look divine in five years time. Her current collection is simply to die for – tweeds, wool, silks and lots of leather (the leather shrug-style sleeves are amazing; you can wear them over anything).
Oh and P.S., Kit and her team are the sweetest, nicest gals ever! Visit them at one of the pretty Willow boutiques around Australia www.willowltd.com. And yes, I caved and bought a coat last night (but I will have it forever!!).
